Local Elections 4 May 2023

Published: 22 March 2023

The notice calling the election for all the positions on Lyminge Parish council has been issued.  All 10 positions for Lyminge Ward and the three for Etchinghill Ward are up for election.  Details about the timetable for the election are available at the link above.

Are you interested in becoming a parish councillor?  The role is voluntary and not paid.  There are no formal qualifications required to be a councillor, but there are eligibility rules that you can check at the website of the Electoral Commission.  You can also download nomination papers at this link if you decide to stand.  YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR NOMINATION IN PERSON AT THE CIVIC CENTRE, CASTLE HILL AVENUE, FOLKESTONE CT20 2QY BY 4PM ON TUESDAY 4 APRIL 2023.

There will be a ballot for Parish Councillors only if the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacant positions, which is 13 in total for the whole council.  In recent years, it has been rare for a ballot to take place for the Parish Council, and if this happens again, then any candidate nominated by the due date will be automatically elected.  Even if there is no ballot for the Parish Council, there will still be a ballot for the District Council on 4 May.
